Pore Scale Modeling of Two-phase Flow

چکیده
In this paper, we compare predictions of several pore-scale codes for singleand two-phase flow for the first time. Firstly, two implementations of lattice-Boltzmann method (LBM) and a finite-difference based code (FDDA) predict single-phase flow in Fontainebleau sandstone and dolomite samples. We then obtain pore-scale drainage for two fluid phase configurations using a novel level set method based progressive quasi-static (LSMPQS) algorithm for capillarity dominated flow. The resulting fluid configurations are used to compute relative permeability using LBM in each phase as well as formation factor. We demonstrate that the numerical methods compare well with each other and available experimental results.

Residual gas saturation is one of the most important parameter in determining recovery factor of water-drive gas reservoir. Several methodologies published in the literature can be used to construct realistic pore networks for simple rocks, whereas in complex pore geometry formations, as formed in tight reservoirs, such a construction still remains a challenge. A basic understanding of pore structure and topology is essential to overcome the challenges associated with the pore scale modeling of tight porous media. A...
متن کاملA New Approach for Constructing Pore Network Model of Two Phase Flow in Porous Media
Development of pore network models for real porous media requires a detailed understanding of physical processes occurring on the microscopic scale and a complete description of porous media morphology. In this study, the microstructure of porous media has been represented by three dimensional networks of interconnected pores and throats which are designed by an object oriented approach. Af...

We show how to predict flow properties for a variety of rocks using pore-scale modeling with geologically realistic networks. The pore space is represented by a topologically disordered lattice of pores connected by throats that have angular cross-sections. We successfully predict single-phase non-Newtonian rheology, and two and three-phase relative permeability for water-wet media. The pore si...
